Performance in response to NVFAA’s Potomac River Life

Jane Franklin Dance returns to the Athenaeum with new works that respond to the current exhibit Potomac River Life. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the enactment of the Clean Water Act, The Athenaeum Gallery features DC, Virginia, and Maryland artists whose works explore the Potomac River.

• Fall Line – Dance is inspired by artworks from NVFAA’s current exhibit “Potomac River Life.”  Works explore the Potomac River, its vital role in the regional ecosystem. Artworks by Michael Gessner River Vessel, Eric Jackson LargeMouth Bass, Potomac River, 2022, Elizabeth Matthews Great Falls at Dusk, Alison Sigethy Freshwater Microverse and David Whitmore Extant motivate a response in movement.
• Robert J. Priore’s new work, Knew is a trio that frames fractured partnership.  Surprising movement responds to music:  “The Poet” Bachar Mar-Khalife, “Misty Blue” Dorothy Moore, “O mes theatres” Barbara Alexander Tharaud.
• Whatever Floats Your Boat – The Forty+ Project dancers set sail for a whimsical cruise choreographed by Emily Crews and set to a jaunty sea shanty by Nathan Evans and a timeless old standard tune by Bobby Darin. 
• This Is – The exciting premier by Ryan Carlough explores the relationship between employees.  Individual perspectives are relayed when an “incident” occurs.  Original music composition layers sound and text and is by local artist Violet Barnhart.
