Artistic Director

Jane Franklin received a MFA from The Ohio State University as a University Fellow and certification from the Laban/Bartenieff Institute for Movement Studies. Jane Franklin’s choreography has been presented at multiple venues and festivals in the mid-Atlantic region and southwestern US and internationally in the UK and in Mexico. A recipient of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region Creative Communities Award, Jane has developed innovative and collaborative projects combining dancers with the round wall skateboarding community, with a life size kinetic sculpture, with the architecture of a specific site, with dogs & owners, and with interactive live video and sound for numerous public art projects.  Jane Franklin is a recipient of the American Association of University Women Elizabeth Campbell Award for the Advancement of the Arts in Arlington, Special Opportunity Awards from the City of Alexandria, and her video work Four Mile Run Footbridge was selected for PHOTO/VIDEO 13: Juried Mid-Atlantic Exhibition. Jane is Senior Dance Reviewer for DC Metro Theater Arts.

Performers and Educators

Native of Arlington County, Va, Philip Baraoidan is alumni of Virginia Commonwealth University. Performance Credits include  Company E, Priore Dance, Sinclair Dance, and Clancyworks. Performance venue highlights include The Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Ed Mervish Theater (Canada), The Ballet Theater of Astana (Kazakhstan) and Richmond Dance Festival. He has performed in works by Robert Priore, Scott Putnam, Christian Von Howard, Kate Weare, Stephanie Martinez, Bob Fosse (Restaged), and Michael Bennet (Restaged). He currently acts as Department Head for both the Jazz and Tap Curriculum, at Perfect Pointe Dance Studio in Arlington, Virginia as well as a curriculum/programming consultant for schools in the greater DC area. He has also taught for numerous programs like, Dance Masters of America, Showstoppers Convention, Central Asian Dance Festival, and American Dance Festival. Philip has received the Dottie McGill Award from Dance Masters of America Teacher Training School, for showcasing excellence in teaching. Philip’s curriculum work and teaching application can be seen integrated nationally and internationally with schools, companies, and touring productions. Emily Crews has been a professional dancer, choreographer, and dance educator since 1991 when she moved to the DC area after graduating from the College of William and Mary. Since the fall of 2000, she has been exploring her tap dance roots as a member of Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble. In addition, Emily serves as the Financial Director for Dance Place. Andie de Vaulx earned an A.A. in dance from Montgomery College, and her B.A. in English from the University of Maryland. Andie has studied for 24 years with many artists including Chuck Davis, Donna Birchfield, and David Dorfman. She has been the artistic director of Equinox Dance Company in Frederick, Maryland, created several works for Forty+, and has been associated with Jane Franklin Dance since 2007.

In 2010, Lauren DeVera received her Bachelor of Arts from the dance program at Old Dominion University. Since then, she has made incredible strides in her career as a performer, choreographer and educator. She is a distinguished thought leader in the dance community with performance and teaching credits including the Kennedy Center, The Howard Theatre, Dance Place DC, Culture Shock DC (alumni), World of Dance, Carnival, BET, and The CW Network. With a deep-rooted passion to bring people together, she began in 2010 as a leader, ambassador, and pioneer of KODACHROME VA, a community-based dance workshop series, by curating a selection of decorated teachers–locally and nationally. It was because of her infectiously warm personality and network, KODACHROME attendees of all experience levels kept coming back for more workshops. The quality of teachers Lauren hand-picked was an incredible need for the growing dance community. Later, she expanded her reach through the DMV chapter of Diggs Deeper by serving as the Production Manager between 2014-2017.

Carly Johnson grew up dancing in Vienna, Virginia and began dancing at Cuppett Performing Arts Center. In high school she added dance classes at Fairfax Academy for Communications and Arts to her training. There, her piece “Popular” won the Black and Blue Choreography Showcase, and the award for Most Outstanding Signature Project in the Dance Academy. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University she now has her BFA in Dance and Choreography and a minor in General Business. While there she had the pleasure of dancing in pieces choreographed by her peers, faculty members, and guest artists at VCU such as Doug Varone and Stephanie Martinez. She has also worked with dance professionals in the Richmond community and the Lyric Opera of Virginia. From 2015 – 2018 she was a choreographer and performing artist with the northern Virginia based dance company Nomadic Artist Productions. Currently she is dancing and choreographing for Next Reflex Dance Collective in addition to teaching and freelance work. Hidden Talent

Kelsey Rohr started studying dance at Richmond Ballet through their public outreach program. She later graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas with a BFA in Dance and minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. She went on to dance with Joshua L. Peugh’s Dark Circles Contemporary Dance and then worked in Geneva, Switzerland with Ballet Junior de Genève and Guilherme Botelho’s Alias Dance Company. She has performed works by Sharon Eyal, Barak Marshall, Angelin Preljocaj, and Roy Assaf. Currently, she enjoys dancing under Robert Priore’s PrioreDance in D.C. and Jane Franklin Dance in Arlington. Amy Scaringe graduated with a BFA from Towson University in 2008. Since then she has had the pleasure if working with Misako Ballet Company, Dissonance Dance Theatre, Wayles Haynes, alight dance theatre, as well as Jane Franklin Dance. She also is currently practicing bikram yoga and taking class at Maryland Youth Ballet. Hidden Talent

Zoe Wampler is a DC based dancer, choreographer, and interdisciplinary artist with a B.F.A. in Dance & Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University. For the 2018/2019 season she was a Dancer/Collaborator with Snap Soup Dance, an exploratory, abstract, contemporary dance and dance film company with strong roots in improvisation and fall & recovery techniques. In the spring of 2018, Zoe had the opportunity to travel to Israel to attend Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, where she studied Gaga Technique and the repertory of Batsheva Dance Company, Noa Zuk, and Vertigo Dance Company.  In addition to performing, Zoe has created across the fields of screen dance, choreography, movement photography, and movement in virtual reality. In the past year her work has been presented at venues such as the ACDA Mid-Atlantic South Conference Gala Concert (Raleigh, NC ), Hind Gallery (Richmond, VA), Ascending Choreographers Showcase (Edgewood, MD), Koresh Artist Showcase (Philadelphia, PA), and Dusklit Interactive Art Festival (Sugarloaf, NY). Currently, she is an Administrative Associate with Jane Franklin Dance, Interning with Christopher K Morgan & Artists, and Development Director of Fractal Theatre Collective.

Kevin White began dancing at age 14 at the Putney Summer Arts Program and trained at the Dance Institute of Washington throughout high school. He is trained in various dance styles including ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop and West African. Kevin studied modern dance as a minor at Kent State University, where he also led Legacy hip hop team. Post Grad Kevin has danced professionally for Taurus Broadhurst, Maverick Lemons, Dayo N Dance and The Black leaves project as assistant director. He has been performed on many stages in the DC area including the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage and at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Kevin has taught modern, broadway jazz, Afro house and many other styles to youth and adults in studios including Joy of Motion and citidance POP! He is most passionate about his work in many of the DMV’s after school programs offering quality arts experiences.

Brynna Wilder
is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher in the DC area. As well as dancing with Jane Franklin Dance, she is the Ballet Program Coordinator at District Dance Company and enjoys doing many projects throughout the DMV. Brynna graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory with her BFA in Dance Performance and a minor in Business Administration in 2016.
